Pelicans are flying up the coast in large numbers, today we spotted over 25 in one group. Amazing to see!!

- The "village" of Gualala was once a thriving mill town and is now a vibrant commerical center with accommodations, resturants, galleries and quaint shops. Gualala os located on the Southern Mendocino Coast, an expanse of rugged coastline, where majestic redwoods, sunny open hillsides and dramatic ocean vistas enliven the senses.
Irish Beach
- Irish Beach is a charming coastal community which is just a few miles North of Mancehster. The community has about 250 home sites. Over the past 30 years about 60% of the sites have had custom homes built but there are still some lots available. The community has private beach access to a 6 mile long sandy beach.
Point Arena
- Point Arena was a bustling lumber and whaling port. Punta Arena, which means "sand port" in Spanish was one of the most active ports on the Mendocino Coast. 1879 records show that 2,300 tons of merchandise were shipped from the wharf. The town looks much the way it did in the early 1900's. Scenic farmland surrounds the city today, a large dairy is just to the North and cows and sheep are seen grazing as one travels along Highway One.

It's that wonderful time of year again when the forests become alive with Rhododendrons and Wild Azeleas. A great time to plan a visit to the coast and the redwood forests!

Summer Solstice!
Come to the Beach!! Here it is the first day of summer and it is HOT inland in California today, but the beach and coastal areas are a pleasant 70 degrees! Wild Rhododendrons are Blooming!
It's that time of year again! The forests are alive with color! A wonderful reason to come visit the coast. The Kruse Rhododendron Reserve is just a mile off Highway One just south of The Sea Ranch. A short loop trail leads the hiker to view the magnificent blossoms which grow so luxuriantly in our area.

Point Arena Lighthouse
The new Via Magazine features: "Lighthouses- Beautiful Beacons of the West" and although not mentioned in the article, our Point Arena Lighthouse is one of the finest. Even as modern technologies have made some lighthouses obsolete, they remain symbols of vigilance, safety and rescue. In 1884, the first lighthouse was constructed on a narrow peninsula just north of the city of Point Arena. The original tower was damaged beyond repair in the 1906 earthquake and had to be torn down. The intervening years have seen many changes to the lighthouse, most recently a complete remodel had the lighthouse closed for most of a year but it is up and open for business. Sport Fishing on the Coast

Located on the Southern Mendocino Coast, Point Arena is an active fishing village with it's own pier.
