The Sea Ranch

Gualala

Irish Beach

    Irish Beach is a charming coastal community which is just a few miles North of Mancehster. The community has about 250 home sites. Over the past 30 years about 60% of the sites have had custom homes built but there are still some lots available. The community has private beach access to a 6 mile long sandy beach.

Point Arena

    Point Arena was a bustling lumber and whaling port. Punta Arena, which means "sand port" in Spanish was one of the most active ports on the Mendocino Coast. 1879 records show that 2,300 tons of merchandise were shipped from the wharf. The town looks much the way it did in the early 1900's. Scenic farmland surrounds the city today, a large dairy is just to the North and cows and sheep are seen grazing as one travels along Highway One.

Waves

WAVES!  Today on the way to work, I had to pull over to take some pictures because the waves were so big and so beautiful!  Waves delight us here on the coast, there are days when the waves are little more than a ripple, but most days there are fairly nice size waves crashing on our local beaches and then there are days like today when you just have to pull over and marvel at the performance!  The waves we enjoy are actually surface waves and are caused by wind for the most part.  The breaking of those waves, which is the lovely white water, is a wave whose base can no longer support it's top causing it to collapse.  Watching the ocean and it's many moods is just one of the things we love about living on the coast!

MARKET UPDATE FOR 2/1/2008

Overall, the real estate activity for the month of January was slow on the coast.  It is well to remember, that this is normally our slow period in winter and of course the rain this past month didn't help bring buyers to the coast either.  Sales for homes were down for the month with only 4 homes going into escrow.  Lots on the other hand saw an increase from no new escrows in December to 2 new escrows in January.  We are enjoying lovely weather now and are looking forward to a large holiday weekend mid month.

Home Sales: Anchor Bay -1 ($460,000) Gualala -1 ($558,000) Irish Beach -1($400,000)The Sea Ranch -3($592,000 - $1,530,000).
